Who Am I, And What Is This Podcast? Ep. 1: Show Notes & Transcript

Welcome to Joy In Every Season, a podcast where we explore what joy really means and the moments that bring joy to our lives. I’m your host, Summer Perkins, and each podcast episode, we will dive into stories of faith, resilience, joy, and all the moments that make us who we are. Let’s choose joy together in every season of life. Now to the episode.

Hey, I’m Summer Perkins, the host of Joy in Every Season. It’s gonna be a shorter episode today, as it’s the first episode and it’s also a soft launch. The main episodes will start coming out, hopefully in May, which is next month now. That is crazy. I’m still figuring out how to use all of the podcast hardware and software, so bear with me as I am learning. It’s my first podcast.

Hey, this is post-editing Summer here. I just wanna let you guys know that while I was recording this, I had a really bad cold, so I sound really stuffy. I’m just now realizing that as I’m listening to it, so, oops. Sorry about that. It’s fine. Now, back to the actual podcast.

I thought I would start off with a few fun facts about me.

Number One: I love Jesus. And I have grown up going to church and being in ministry.

Number Two: I’m married to the coolest guy ever. Shout out to Austin. He’ll be on the podcast, hopefully, sometimes. We have been married since 2019, so almost six years, which is so cool.

Number Three: I am the youngest of five, and Austin is the youngest of four, so we have a lot of nieces, nephews running around. I was born in 2000, so it’s always really easy to figure out how old I am. I was born in November.

Number Five: I have two cats, baby. The grumpy old lady cat we’ve had since she was a kitten. And Icarus, who we’ve also had since he was a kitten, because he’s still a kitten, he’s only like seven months old. And I am hoping to get a dog someday. That would be great.

Those are the fun facts about me. And now it’s time to talk about the podcast. What is the podcast about?

I will be talking in this podcast about how you can choose joy in every season of life. The good, the okay, the bad, and the really bad. I have had a lot of pain in my 24 years. A lot more than most people have in their whole lives. Sometimes it’s harder to find the joy, but it’s always there. And the little things. In every season of my life, I can see God’s fingerprints all over it, and he has brought me so much joy through all of it. And it’s always easier to find joy in the seasons that are fun and the seasons that feel like spring. But it’s harder to find them when the seasons feel like winter and everything is cold and dying, but even in winter, it’s still pretty outside, and you can have snowball fights and find all of the cute, fun things to do with your friends.

I have been able to find joy in every season. The good ones, the bad ones, mostly because of my faith in Jesus. He is everything to me. He has brought me through every season of my life through mental illness and financial struggles and abuse and all sorts of different things, and he’s currently bringing me through another really hard season. But through every season, you can still find joy, even if it’s small things, little things. There’s still things to be excited about. There’s still things to be happy about, and the biggest one is that Jesus is our Savior. I’m recording this right now, as we’re coming into Easter, and it’s really bringing it full circle to me that it really is all about Jesus. Like He is the main reason that we can have joy in a broken world because He died for our sins, and because of Him, we can believe in Him and have eternal life. And we have hope, knowing that God has a plan for us, and He wants what’s best for us, and He loves us. The person, the one who created us, loves us and wants a relationship with us. That is the biggest reason that I have been able to find joy in the hard seasons of life that I’ve been through.

Because I’ve found so much joy in my walk with Jesus, even in the seasons that have completely wrecked me, I really want to share that with all of you. I’ve really been feeling lately like I really needed to start this podcast—just confirmation after confirmation, specifically the name of the podcast, ‘Joy In Every Season.’

I see it everywhere, just that wording. Yeah, that’s, that’s why I wanna do this podcast because even if it helps just one person to be able to find a little bit more joy, then it’s worth it. And yeah, I hope you guys enjoy it, and I hope I can get to know you guys a little bit as well. You could DM me on my Instagram. I would love that. Comment on the platforms that are commentable, like Spotify. Yeah. Anyway, so that’s a little bit about me and the heart behind why I want to do this podcast.

Everything I have been through, Jesus has been with me through it all, and I want to share that with you all. On this podcast, I’ll be sharing my story, how I’ve been able to find and choose joy in the good times and the bad. I’ll also hopefully be interviewing other people to share their stories of joy. I want to go through what joy means to me and what biblical joy is supposed to look like. I’ll try to keep each episode shorter than an hour, hopefully, and post every other week until I’m able to do every week. So keep an eye out for that and follow my Instagram for more information. I’ll also be figuring out how to write and link show notes for you guys. I think I’ve mostly got it figured out. I’m still learning, and this is the soft launch episode. Anyways, thank you for listening, and I hope you guys have a great day.
